Fast-8 (Fasting 8) is an intermittent fasting method that is organized into 2 periods: a food intake period of 8 hrs during the day and a fasting period of 16 hrs.
Concretely, we eat from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and fast from 8 p.m. to 12 p.m. In fact, we skip breakfast. We don’t eat any food, but we hydrate ourselves with unsweetened drinks like water, herbal teas, tea and even coffee.
I admit that until last week, skipping breakfast was unthinkable for me! I was sure that I would be tired and have a hypoglycemia attack! Well, since we don’t know anything until we try, I got started. First during the weekend because I stayed quietly at home, then on weekdays at work. Well in both cases, I was not hungry, neither a headache, nor a drop in diet. On the contrary, I was hyper-efficient every morning.
In addition at noon, I was really hungry, but without it hurting my stomach! I was feeling hungry! It may sound odd to some, but I have always struggled with the notion of satiety and hunger. I always felt like I didn’t feel them!
Since I fasted until noon, not only did I eat fewer calories over the course of my day (2 meals instead of 3) but also, I feel like I can finally communicate with my body and be at its listen.
I didn’t understand why, when I ate at 4 p.m., I couldn’t stop. In fact, the answer was simple. I was listening to my limbic hunger. Quézako?
The name "limbic" comes from the limbic system which is a cerebral zone which controls our primitive instincts, our emotions and our memory. For a hunter in Paleolithic times, eating a lot when there was food was a good reflex. Our appetite for sweet, for example, could have been a way found by nature to make us seek out and absorb fruits that contain the vitamins we need.
For example, you cannot limit yourself to eating only one chip because of your LIMBIC hunger. Eating a first crisps makes you want to eat a second because very old limbic signals tell your body to eat as long as there are crisps in the package and this leads to eating more and more and brings us in in a vicious circle that only stops when the package of chips is empty. This old instinct takes control of our behavior, leaving aside our "higher" thoughts. Hunger LIMBIQUE is the big cause of eating too much and too often.
The men evolved in an environment where the food rate was probably one meal per day or every two days, because it would take hours or even days to hunt wild animals, then hours to prepare them. Food had to be ingested quickly because there were no refrigerators to keep it longer. Within hours, the bacteria had to make the meat non-consumable. This is probably how the dog became man's best friend - dogs ate our remains in the Paleolithic period and if they did not eat them, then swarmed cockroaches, mosquitoes, mice, rats, bacteria …
In summary, when you do not eat, you are not hungry and as soon as you start to eat, you can not stop 😉
The advantage of fasting is to put our digestive system to rest for an extended period. During this time, our body takes advantage of its energy to repair and renew our cells (thanks to the hormones that our body releases in a fasting situation like the growth hormone for example), which prevents the aging of our body.
During this period of fasting, the body draws from the deep fats the ketone bodies which it burns to transform them into assimilable energy. So, we have peach and our cellulite is doing the trunk 😉 COOL!
Apparently to lose weight and lose fat, the best is Fast 5 (fast from 8 p.m. to 3 p.m. and food intake from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Well, for now, since I'm starting, I prefer to stay on fast 8 But this summer, during my vacation I intend to test the fast 5 to see its effectiveness!
